| Ash begins his battle with Paul. Ash uses his original Sinnoh team, while Paul starts off with a whole new team. Paul starts off with Aggron, revealed to have evolved from his Lairon. Ash starts with Pikachu, but switches after a couple intense attacks. He sends out Infernape . Infernape defeats Aggron with a well-timed Mach Punch. Paul sends out Gastrodon (East Sea), and Ash switches to Staraptor. Paul begins with a counter shield strategy of his own, much to Ash's surprise. Staraptor is switched with Buizel. Buizel replicates the famous Ice Jet, damaging Gastrodon. Buizel intercepts Gastrodon's Body Slam with an Ice Punch, knocking Gastrodon out. Paul next sends out Drapion. After counter-shielding Missile Needle and dodging Cross Poison, Buizel is grabbed by Drapion's tail. Can Ash keep ahead, or will Paul even out the odds? | ||||||||||||||||||||

Plot Summary: Kudo Shinichi is a seventeen year-old high school detective whom people call the "Modern Sherlock Holmes." However, one night after a date with his childhood sweetheart, Ran, Shinichi witnessed an illegal trade and, caught off his guard, was knocked unconscious and fed a drug that was supposed to kill him... but he woke up and found himself shrunken to a seven year-old. In order to track down the men who did this to him, Shinichi hid his identity and lived with Ran, whose father happened to be a hopeless detective, and with that came a series of murders and mysteries that he must solve.

| Ash's Infernape learns Flare Blitz and Gible masters Draco Meteor. Ash faces Conway with Noctowl, Gible and Donphan. Ash knocks out Conway's Shuckle with Gible and Lickilicky with Noctowl, but Conway's Dusknoir knocks out Noctowl and Donphan because of a move called Trick Room. With Gible and Dusknoir taken a lot of damage each, it looks as though neither side has the clear advantage until Gible bites through Dusknoir's Shadow Punch, unleashes Draco Meteor again, and knocks out Dusknoir with a well-aimed Dragon Pulse. Ash moves on to the Top 8 along with Paul and the mystery trainer with the Darkrai. The mystery trainer's name is revealed, Tobias. So for the quarter-finals, Ash will be battling Paul. | After Ash defeats his opponent in round 2, Paul, Barry, Conway and the trainer with Darkrai also move to round 3. Ash discovers that his next opponent is Conway and the next battle is between Paul and Barry. Doing some research on their opponents, Ash, Barry and Paul each learn something about their opponents. When the battle between Barry and Paul begins Paul's sends out his Magmortar, who easily defeats Barry's Skarmory because of a power packed Flamethrower. Then Paul's Ursaring defeats Barry's Hitmonlee, even though Hitmonlee got a powerful Blaze Kick, but Paul recalls Magmortar and sends out Electivire. After a fierce battle between Paul's Electivire and Empoleon with its special ability Torrent which increases the strength of Water type moves when it has taken severe damage just like Infernape's Blaze and Torterra's Overgrow being activated. | |||||
